Sanatan Dharma Shibira

Why we need Sanatana Samskar Shibir?

What is the need of Sanatana Samskar Shibir (S.S.S.) or Puratana Samskar Shibir (P.S.S.)? British ruled our country for nearly two centuries. During their rule, Britishers abolished the Gurukul system of education in the name of Modern education. Even though Britishers gave Independence and left our country, they have left the Western Culture in India. Their main aim was to have Indians mentally oriented to Western Culture. Our beloved Guruji Parama Poojya Shri Jade Shantalingeshwar Mahaswamiji has been striving hard in the last 4-5 decades to imbibe the Sanatana culture in our younger generation and put a strong foundation to mould their personality. In this noble pursuit, Mahaswamiji has conducted several Puratana Samskar Shibiras across various places in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Puratana Samskar Shibiras are based on the following popular vachana of Vishwaguru Basavanna.

“Kalabeda, Kolabeda, Husiya nudiyalubeda, Anyarige Asahyaa Padabeda, Tanna Bannisabeda, Idira Haliyalu Beda, Ide Antaranga Shuddhi, Ide Bahiranga Shuddhi, Ide Namma Kudal Sangama Devaranolisuva Pari.”
Meaning
Do not steal, do not kill, do not lie, do not get angry, do not be scornful of others, do not glorify yourself, do not insult others. These are the means to inner purity, these are the means to outer purity These are the means to please Kudala Sangama Deva)

There are some very basic rituals you can add to your life that will greatly enhance and transform your outlook, and over time, your life. Yogic wisdom says that thoughts lead to actions, your actions become habits and your habits determine your character, and ultimately your character determines your destiny. As the late Wayne Dyer said.

What are the Benefits of participation in Puratana Samskar Shibira?

Since eternity humans have strived to improve their inner self. This realisation, unique only to mankind, has led him to think deeper about his physical, mental and spiritual well being. Towards this end, the Vedic seers prescribed a set of observances, known as Samskaras. In classical Sanskrit literature texts, samskara is used to mean: education, cultivation, training, refinement, perfection, grammatical purity, polishing, embellishment, decoration, a purificatory rite, a sacred rite, consecration, sanctification, effect of past actions (karmas), merit of karmas, etc.

The variety of rites and rituals related to the samskaras help in the formation and development of human personality. In one of the sacred texts it is said, "Just as a picture is painted with various colours, so the character of a person is formed by undergoing various samskaras." Thus, the Hindu sages realised the need of consciously guiding and moulding the character of individuals, instead of letting them grow in a haphazard manner. According to the Hindusages, samskaras impart a higher sanctity to life. Impurities associated with the material body are eradicated by performing samskaras. The whole body is consecrated and made a fit dwelling place for the Atma. The samskaras are a form of spiritual endeavour (sadhana) - an external discipline for internal spiritual improvement. Thus, the entire life of a Hindu is one grand sacrament. The Isha Upanishad reveals that the final goal of the samskaras, by observing the rites and rituals is "to transcend the bondage of samsara and cross the ocean of death." To this we can add that after transcending the cycle of births and deaths, the Atma attains Paramatma.
